Roundtable on Diversity in Silicon Valley | Bloomberg West
Glad this discussion is happening. If only for the fact that aspiring entrepreneurs who don’t look the Valley part can see contemporaries worth modeling theirs paths off. The low numbers of blacks, Hispanics and women at the center of the tech boom will eventually increased. Sooner than later, I’ll hope.
UPDATE… I...

Vigilante Vigilante: The Battle for Expression [Trailer]
Back when I was painting, we called dudes who tried to stop taggers or called the cops, “heroes.” We fucking hated heroes. But now I’m grown, so I’d like to actually hear them out.

“There is no such thing as a home computer market” and other amazing insights from a 1985 PBS report on Apple and Steve Jobs [VIDEO]
The best part is then CEO John Sculley stating the above (and Jobs seemingly going along with this silliness). It’s remarkable to see the ancient industry quotes and “expert” testimony about Apple’s prospects. Still, it was...

Five Ways I Learned to Love an Android
Samsung wanted me to spend some time with their new and sexy Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, a svelte Android device designed to give iPad a run for its money. As an Apple guy, it took a few minutes for me to get my head around what made this thin iPad “killer” something to consider. But somewhere between opening the box and learning my way around a new OS, I also grew to appreciate the...

Teach your parents well
Such a great spot for Toyota Venza. In it the daughter is talking about reading (OK, partially reading, lol) an article online about how adults are less social. Cut away to her totally active parents. Meanwhile, she feels sorry for their only 19 friends while she has over 600 and is totally “living.” So true from how we’ve all probably chased our parents online (OK, me) to how we...

Dilla: Last Donut of the Night
One of my favorite tracks from Dilla’s instrumental masterpiece Donuts, delivered at almost precisely the time he passed away. So beautiful, haunting and cinematic at once. (source, source)
A few years ago, I used it as the soundtrack for a Coachella inspired slide show of my front row photography. The music seemed to me like a soothing waltz overlaying the chaos of being front of stage.

Sorkin vs. Zuckerberg | Lawrence Lessig review
Great review by Lawrence Lessig in The New Republic on The Social Network.
[Ugh, this is the third time I’m attempting to rite this review. Note to Tumblr: Watch the part in the movie where Zuckerberg talks about the absolute importance of servers not going down!].
Lessig talks about net Neutrality and its effect on invention in the digital age. He also offers some perspective on the...

10 Takeaways from The Social Network
I just came back from The Grove in LA, where I caught a mid-day matinee of The Social Network. Maybe you’ve heard of it? My recommendation, go see it. At the very least, it will remind kids and parents of the importance of getting into a good college (half kidding). Anyway, a few thoughts while still basking in the glow of the big screen.
(*And don’t worry, no spoilers)
My college...

Build the damn mosque. Thanks.

There is a Hypnotic Brass Ensemble documentary in the works. I first saw these cats (eight siblings on horns plus their drummer) in Miami for M3 several years ago. They’ve since surfaced for me a few times, bringing their deep brass sounds (think Miles Davis meets New Orleans’ Rebirth Brass Band) to LA’s Echoplex most recently.
Some notesĀ from the director Reuben Atlas (via The...
